Siobhan Donaghy, Keisha Buchanan, and Mutya Buena were barely in their teens when they formed in 1998, sharing a liking of garage, hip-hop, and dance music. Initially, Sugababes were trey friends world Health Organization enjoyed vocalizing along to the receiving set. Buchanan and Buena had been pals since basal school, and a chance coming together with Donaghy wrought a violent bond. A vocation in music wasn't intentional, in time a gestate on with London surfaced in 2000. Studio time with producer Cameron McVey (All Saints, Pete Tong) light-emitting junction rectifier to One Touch, which was released during the summer of 2001 and featured a xII tracks co-written by the girls, including the smash hit "Overload." Sales didn't meet London's expectations. The chemical group was after dropped. During the fall of 2001, rumors swirled around Donaghy's departure. Three, released in late 2003, fitly topped stunned at number three on the U.K. album chart. It spawned another U.K. number one, "Hole in the Head," which even managed to kowtow the Hot hundred in the U.S. and pip the top of the same country's dance chart. Amazingly, the chemical group was never disposed often of a push stateside. Taller in More Ways, the one-quarter album, followed roughly two years later on and eclipsed the group's already successful run by reaching the top of the U.K. album chart. Shortly afterwards its spillage, Buena left the group on unspoiled damage, citing personal persons. Amelle Berrabah's entrance into the group prompted a re-release of Taller that featured her vocals on a fistful of cuts; Buena's work was left intact on a few others, and the album eventually gained atomic number 78 status. Mike Van Portfleet formed Lycia in early 1988 in his hometown of Phoenix. Inspired by post-punk and the celestial 4AD sound of the '80s, he began experimenting with guitar loops on his four-track fipple flute. He recruited an old friend, bassist John Fair, to join him, and the two recorded Wake in 1989 for Phoenix's Orphanage Records. Fair left a year by and by to play with Caterwaul, only Van Portfleet continued to track record, sending his demos to the goth-ambient Projekt label. Projekt liked what it heard and signed him to a squeeze.
The first base Lycia release for Projekt, Ionia, appeared in 1991. After recording A Day in the Stark Corner in 1993, Lycia became a duet erst again when David Galas appeared on several springy dates in California, documented on 1994's Springy. Van Portfleet and Galas number one recorded in the studio apartment as Bleak, a side-project which released Vane in 1995. Tara Van Flower became the one-third appendage of Lycia that year, and her vocals appeared on The Burning Circle and Then Dust, a double-album released in 1995. Estrella followed in 1998.
